2022 Municipal Election
If for any reason you will be unable to cast your ballot in person on Election Day or at an advance poll, proxy voting allows you to appoint another person to vote on your behalf. A voting proxy is someone who is an eligible voter in the City of Brantford and who you trust to vote in accordance with your wishes. The first possible day for an elector to appoint a voting proxy is Monday, August 22, 2022. Proxy applications can be submitted between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. daily or during the hours of 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on any day of an advance vote at City Hall, 58 Dalhousie St.
Who needs to complete the proxy Form? |
The Elector making the appointment will complete Sections A, B and C of the form. The form needs to be witnessed in section C. As long as the Elector making appointment portion is completed and witnessed, only the appointed Elector needs to attend our office. The appointed Elector is required to complete a declaration, Section D, and have their signature witnessed by the Clerk or designate. Two copies of this form must be completed. |

Any eligible elector can be appointed. |
How Many Times can an elector be appointed? |
A person can only act as a proxy for one other person, except this does not apply if the proxy and the other person are spouses or siblings of each other, parent and child, or grandparent and grandchild. |
How does an elector appoint a proxy? |
A person who has been appointed a voting proxy shall;
(a) complete an application in the prescribed form, including a statutory declaration that he or she is the person appointed as a voting proxy; and (b) present the application and the appointing document to the Clerk at the clerk’s office, or any place designated by the clerk, in person. The application may be presented at any time when the clerk’s office or other place designated by the Clerk is open. Then a signature is required from the Clerk or designate. |
What does a proxy need at the poll? |
The appointed proxy will need to produce the Appointment of Voting Proxy – Form 3 document completed in full. They will take an oral oath at the poll when being issued their proxy ballot. |
Can a proxy still vote their own ballot? |
Yes. If the Wards are the same, they will be issued two ballots. If they differ, then the Proxy will attend two (or more) polls as appropriate to complete the Voting process. |
Is there a proxy process for online voting? |
No there is not. The proxy form is for the voting locations only. |
