The City of Brantford and the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing jointly present a virtual Candidate Information Session from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 16th. Municipal Election topics include key dates, campaign finance requirements, relevant campaign by-laws, and much more.

Candidate education session for the 2026 Municipal Election

The City of Brantford will host a candidate education session for individuals considering running in the 2026 Municipal Election.

This session provides an overview of the role and responsibilities of Council, along with practical insight from former councillors. An additional information session will be delivered after nominations close for individuals who have been formally certified as candidates.

Topics will include:

The role and authority of Council
Responsibilities of elected officials
Time commitments and workload expectations
Legislative and ethical requirements
What to expect during a term of office
Guest speaker: Rick O’Connor, MuniverseRO Consulting Inc. (former Clerk and City Solicitor, City of Ottawa)

A moderated question period will follow the presentations.

Date: Thursday, March 5

Time: 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Light refreshments: 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Location: Council Chambers, Brantford City Hall, 58 Dalhousie Street

Individuals who prefer to attend virtually may participate via Zoom at 5:45 p.m. Advance registration is required for virtual attendance. Registration is not required to attend in person.

Voter Information Letters

Voter Information Letters will be mailed to every eligible voter over the next few weeks. Every elector within each household in Brantford will receive their own individual Voter Information Letter.

Those that are not currently registered as Brantford Voters can visit City Hall to add themselves to the Voters' List. Voters can also correct their personal information (i.e. name, property address, school support) by visiting City Hall.

Vote Online Starting October 3rd

Exercising your right to vote has never been easier. You can cast your ballot right here at brantford.ca/election starting October 3 at 10:00 a.m., through to October 24 at 8:00 p.m. Vote online anywhere at any time using any device with a web browser. Visit our Online Voting page for more information.

To vote online, you must be on Brantford’s Voters’ List. If you are a new resident, or if your name or address has changed since 2018, you may not be listed correctly. Even if you registered to vote in June’s Provincial Election, you may not be registered to vote in Brantford’s Municipal Election. Eligible voters can update their information at City Hall. To verify that you’re on the list, please call the City’s Customer Contact Centre at 519-759-4150.

Sudden passing of Ward 5 candidate Eric Mundy

BRANTFORD, ON: Sadly, the City of Brantford has learned that Municipal Councillor for Ward 5 candidate Eric Mundy passed away suddenly. We send our condolences to Mr. Mundy’s family and friends.

With the Municipal Election to take place on Monday, October 24, 2022, the voting ballots including Mr. Mundy’s name have already been printed and cannot be revised at this late stage in the election process.

As Mr. Mundy’s passing does not create an acclamation for Ward 5 Councillor positions, the election will continue and the results will be produced on October 24^th for the remaining candidates.

Public notices of Mr. Mundy’s passing will be posted at all in-person voting sites and on the Municipal Election 2022 online voting page at Brantford.ca/OnlineVoting.

Candidate and third party advertisers information session for the 2026 Municipal Election

The City of Brantford will host a Candidate Information Night for individuals who intend to file a nomination and run in the 2026 Municipal Election, or who intend to register as a third party advertiser.

This session will provide practical information about the election process and the rules and obligations for candidates and third party advertisers, including nomination and registration, campaign rules, campaign finances, and compliance.

Presentations will be provided by representatives from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, the City of Brantford Clerk’s Department, and the City’s By-law Department. A moderated question period will follow.

Topics will include:

roles and responsibilities of elected officials and City staff
eligibility rules
nomination process and key timelines
registration process for third party advertisers
campaign finances and financial reporting requirements
compliance audit process
voters’ list, voting by proxy, and related rules
scrutineers and election-day procedures
recounts
election compliance

Election Day: Your City. Your Vote, Brantford

This Monday, October 24, 2022, Brantford voters can cast their ballot at any polling station in their ward between 10:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.

Electors are reminded to bring their Voter Information Letters and identification showing their name and qualifying Brantford address. Voter Information Letters were mailed to every eligible elector on the Voters’ List. The letters provide information about when and where to vote. Anyone who has not yet received a Voter Information Letter can still vote at any polling location in their ward so long as valid identification is provided.

Skip the lines and exercise your right to vote!

Easy online voting will be available until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, October 24. Voter Information Letters are required to vote online. If you have not received your Voter Information Letter and wish to vote online, please visit City Hall (58 Dalhousie Street).

Election results can be accessed after 8:00 p.m. on Monday, October 24 and will be updated as information becomes available.

Municipal Election Compliance Audit Committee

We’re seeking qualified candidates to receive and make decisions on applications for compliance audits of campaign finances for Council candidates and registered third party advertisers. If you have experience in accounting and/or auditing and have academic experience in political science or local government administration, we invite you to fill out an application online or by visiting Brantford City Hall. The deadline to apply is 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 24, 2022.

Advance Voting Set to Begin

While Election Day will take place on October 24, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., there are four advance voting days scheduled in October to provide all Brantford voters with an opportunity to cast a physical ballot.

In-person advance voting will run from October 12 to October 15, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre (254 North Park Street) and the Brantford and District Civic Centre (69 Market Street South).

“Voters who want to cast their ballot without waiting in line on Election Day can head to advance polls that open on Wednesday,” says Keaton Scarff, Election Assistant. “I would encourage anyone who has decided on their vote to get their ballots in early.”

Electors are reminded to bring their Voter Information Letters and identification showing their name and qualifying Brantford address. Voter Information Letters have been mailed to every eligible elector on the Voters’ List. Anyone who has not yet received a Voter Information Letter can still vote at any polling station in their ward on Advance Voting Days and Election Day so long as valid identification with a qualifying address is provided.

“No matter which candidates you support, it’s so important to get out and vote,” says Chris Gauthier, Manager of Clerk Services. “Vote early if you can, and make sure your voice is heard.”

The City Clerk’s department will be extending their office hours during the Advanced Voting period running from Wednesday, October 12 through to Saturday, October 15. Voters may visit City Hall (58 Dalhousie Street) from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm on any Advanced Voting day to make amendments, inclusive of Saturday, October 15. If you are unsure if you are registered as a Brantford voter, please call 519-759-4150.

Are you a new Brantford resident? Has your name or address changed since 2018? Are you unsure if you are listed as an elector in Brantford for the Municipal Election? You can check and change your personal information at voterlookup.ca. Checking your personal information (such as your address and name) will help ensure that your information is up to date, allow you to confirm your school support, and will help make sure your Voter Information Card will arrive to you at the correct address. Even if you had updated your information with Elections Ontario for the Provincial Election taking place on June 2, 2022, you must also update your information through the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) for the Municipal Election. These databases are separate. This is the fastest and most convenient way to check and update your information before the Municipal Election.
